Do you have questions about FreshAire
With Bio-Filters® cat litter?

Check our frequently asked questions below:
Q. Lots of litters claim to be “all natural”…is that just a slogan for FreshAire?

A. No. Simply put, FreshAire contains no chemicals, allergens or fragrances. That’s why it is the healthy choice for your cat, for your home and for the environment.

Q. How many litter boxes do I need?

A. Many vets and cat behavioral experts suggest you have at least one litter box per cat recognizing that cats are instinctively territorial and private creatures.

Q. Why is FreshAire With Bio-Filters® cat litter called “hybrid” litter?

A. It combines the best properties of each type of litter approach – recycled kiln-dried wood, clumping clay and regular clay.

Q. Where do I dispose of the clumps?

A. The clumps should be disposed of in the garbage for landfill disposal, as with any litter.

Q. When I change the box altogether, how do I dispose of unused litter?

A.We recommend you dispose of it in the garbage. Some cat owners use "unused" litter as mulch, however, there’s increasing concern that wastewater that comes into contact with even small amounts of cat waste may pose a health risk to aquatic mammals.

Q. How much lighter is FreshAire With Bio-Filters® than regular clumping clay litters?

A. It's 50% lighter than the heavier clumping clay litters.

Q. Why do you use plastic jugs?

A. We evaluated plastic bags (but found them difficult and unwieldy to carry, though admittedly cheaper for us), and paperboard cartons (which tend to leak, aren't weatherproof and are also hard to carry). In the final analysis we decided plastic jugs are light enough but strong; important for many cat owners who carry litter home by public transit. We continue, however, to closely monitor new and improved packaging options and your feedback, as well as our dual mission to promote US manufacturing jobs AND recycling technology – all jugs are Made In The USA with at least 25% recycled content.

Q. Why do you use plastic pails?

A.We pack our largest size in a reusable pail with a contoured handle so that transit riders and those with limited mobility can carry as large a quantity of litter as possible at one time, reducing their number of shopping trips.

Q. I’ve bought FreshAire with Bio-Filters® several times – the last batch looks like it has more wood than the previous one?

A.You may be right. As a 100% natural product, and one which relies on recycled content sources, FreshAire With Bio-Filters® cat litter may have slightly more batch-to-batch variation in visual appearance than synthetic or inorganic litters. Although the percent wood we include is constant by volume, due to variations in wood fiber density you may see some variation in the visual appearance of the amount of wood versus clay from batch to batch.

Q. There was some empty space in the top of the jug – did I get the amount intended?

A.Some "headspace" atop a pail or jug is normal. Because we include wood – and since wood’s fiber density varies – we use generous container sizes. This provides room for density variation while still allowing us to include the promised weight of litter in every container.

Q. Can I buy FreshAire With Bio-Filters® in Canada?

A.Unfortunately, it is not currently available outside the USA. If the product is well received in the US, where it was invented, we feel confident it will be brought to other nations as soon as possible. Please keep checking this website, or email us with your name and country of residence for updates on availability.

Q. Why don’t all other litters clearly identify what’s in them?

A.Because they aren’t required to. Regulations on cat litter are very weak – not only are makers of cat litter not legally required to state contents (some will simply state "clay" while many list no ingredients at all), but several products have been found to have knowingly incomplete (or, essentially, inaccurate) ingredient listings. This can be misleading to cat owners who we believe should be informed about the presence of synthetic fragrances, PTFE-style dust suppressants or synthesized anti-microbial agents.

Q. What can I do to encourage more honest and open disclosure of all ingredients, including chemicals, in cat litter?

A.Write congress (please!).
